You are of course one of the folks whose opinions on social media I regard highly.:)

I understand this is where the 'net is headed and you make good points about the connections and possibilities for the good the technology brings. However while I am no expert on foursquare, it seems there is also the real potential for surveillance and supervision. I wonder if others who use the tool are as reflective and knowledgeable as you in its use. I'm not sure - but good points for me to ponder. :)

Again thanks for taking the time.Emoryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07759157281770198847noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1087838406689476466.post-1327093701649659682011-02-25T16:11:16.576-05:002011-02-25T16:11:16.576-05:00Emory,
As I take off my tin foil hat to write you ...Emory,
As I take off my tin foil hat to write you a comment I understand your position. Social media allows us to be, well, social. Sharing all parts of lives including our locations reveal our interests. I use Foursquare and love it. Whenever I am out with the folks from the office or my wife I enjoy reading the tips for locations left by others who have been there. These tips offer great information about locations, service, taste and more. About a year ago when I started using the service I was a bit more obsessed than I am now. I was in a heated battle with a local gentleman of mayorship of a local grocery store. One day it would be me and the next it would be him. Eventually we were there at the same time, realized it, and became fast friends. In a few days we went out to dinner and still talk regularly. This was a person I would have passed by in my day-to-day travels, but because I use social media I am able to make and see connections I normally would not. I do not regularly post my locations on Twitter and am selective about who is my friend on Foursquare. For me is all about being more social meeting new people and adding to my network. But hey, I am one of the ones in the tin foil hats.

Great post Emory!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13379925094405907573noreply@blogger.com
